John had seen that something's wrong with the doctor, long before the poison really kicked in. Couldn't he call for the ambulance back then? Or suggested a trip for a check-up? Or ask Finch to fabricate something so the doctor is taken into a hospital regardless of his wishes?
Although, the doctor himself wasn't doing much better. Nosebleed, dizziness, had to ring some warning bells. And then the back of his hands turns freaking purple, and he argues with his daughter about abandoning university?
